The U.S. Lemon grenade was a small, hand-held explosive device that saw limited use during World War II. It was designed as a compact and lightweight alternative to the larger, more cumbersome Mk2 pineapple grenade. The grenade was named for its distinctive shape, which resembled a lemon fruit.

Unlike the Mk2 grenade, the Lemon grenade had a smooth exterior and lacked the fragmentation capability of its larger counterpart. It was primarily used as a signaling device and could also be used to mark a location or target for artillery fire. The grenade was filled with a smoke-producing agent, which would emit a thick cloud of colored smoke upon detonation.

Although it saw limited use during World War II, the Lemon grenade remained in service with the U.S. military for several decades after the war. It was eventually phased out in favor of more modern signaling devices, but its unique shape and historical significance have made it a popular collector's item among military history enthusiasts.
